Thanks to Gary L who's fallen into my rabbit hole of job searching and turned up amazing stuff, so I'm going to hopefully reward him, and all of you, with a cool post! Ever hear of the Justice Bell? It was carried on the back of a Model T for 5000 miles in 3 months around Pennsylvania!

Those are solid rubber wheels, with chains... that had to be HARSH on the driver!

The bell was a bronze replica of the Liberty Bell of the revolutionary war fame

Known also as the “Women's Liberty Bell,” or the “Suffrage Bell,” the Justice Bell was made the same size and shape of the Liberty Bell, but with two significant differences:
to the inscription on the original, “Proclaim liberty throughout all the land unto all the inhabitants thereof,” Katharine added, “Establish justice and secure the blessings of liberty” to emphasize her own mission.
In addition, Katharine arranged for the bell's clapper to be chained to the side of the bell. It was silenced—just like women's political voices were then—and would remain silent until women were granted their right to vote.

After the attempt to get the vote in Pennsylvania failed, Katherine turned her attention to the national stage, and continued to tour with the Bell over the next several years at political rallies and events all the way from Illinois to Washington, DC.

it's not a surprise to any car guy that a great paint job is nearly endless prep, and intense scrutiny on the base layers of primer and sanding... but this is a new trick to me to see the scratches that have to be removed before paint (we've all seen WHY! No one misses the deep scratches under the paint and clear)

so, look at this, a powder puff for a guide coat that shows those damn invisible scratches so you keep at it until the primer is perfect, and the car is ready for the color paint:  https://www.facebook.com/reel/1108005260479364

The Museum of American Speed will embark on a "Sea to Sea in a Model T" road trip on the Lincoln Highway from New York to San Francisco in a 1924 Ford Model T on June 4th to mark the 100th anniversary

The ten-millionth Ford Car left the Highland Park factories of The Ford Motor Company on June 4th, 1924

Frank Kulick, who attained fame and broke many records as the pilot of Ford racing cars, was at the wheel during the trans-continental trip on the Lincoln Highway from New York to San Francisco,

and a recreation of that same vehicle is on display at the Museum of American Speed after it was donated by the family of the late Dr. Hathaway, who made the same exact trip a total of two times – to mark 50 years since Ford’s own road trip, as well as 75 years.

“Our team is excited to be part of a third trip in celebration of the 100th anniversary of the ten-millionth Model T Ford,” said Tim Matthews curator of the Museum of American Speed.

“The Model T Ford changed the world’s landscape and way of life forever. We are excited to take this 100 year old car out of its Museum display and prove it can make this monumental voyage once again.”

the 2025 Ford Mustang GTD, one of the few factory weekend track stars, is expected to sell for around $325,000, 1/2 down to reserve one for the approved buyers

The GTD — named for the International Motor Sports Association’s Grand Touring Daytona racing class — comes from Ford’s engineering department.

Those wealthy enough to be selected to purchase a 2025 Ford Mustang GTD will have to put down a deposit of at least 50 percent of the vehicle’s purchase price to reserve their place on the list of buyers.

Since Ford no longer makes the GT, (2022 was the last) and the last few years of production weren't street legal, I'd say the GTD is their crown jewel.

Thanks to John for sharing this memorial about a B17 crash site in Oregon's Blue Mountains, and it's crew!

B 17 42-30655 crashed on training flight in Oregon mountains 33 miles from the base near Pendelton, a bomber training site during the war

The US Government retrieved the bodies of the crew and left the wreckage of the bomber at the crashsite.  It seems that the wrecks are never cleaned up by the govt.

there's a website made by a guy who is tracking down all the Oregon plane wrecks, and there are a lot of them, besides this B 17, there was a P 38, and an A 6, and a Hellcat on Deadman Mountain, there are at least 24 WW2 era crash sites in the Blue Mountains area

A6 above, and P 38 below

and another B 17 crashed on Cape Lookout

myself, I feel the govt is responsible for the equipment it knows of that litters the planet, as a result of crashes, or as a result of wars. There are many crash sites, on mountain sides, in swamps, in lakes, etc etc that the govt has never bothered to remove.

After all, try and tell the govt that you'll be expecting them to ignore the aircraft you relocate from some crash site to your museum or home.... and you'll see them get mighty protective of their ownership of the planes. You know?

But tell them they have some plane crashes to clean up, and they'll give you the I don't think so, "it's not in the budget" dead shark eye look while they wait for you to move along.

The govt has turned a blind eye to the crashed Army Air Corps planes for about 80 years, but if its YOUR cars and trucks in your back 40, that are on someone's hit list, you can guess who gets fined by the day until abandoned cars are removed.

A radial engine developed for light aviation, but is a bolt-in for VW vehicles because it’s based on standard air cooled VW Beetle engine architecture, it puts out a 100 hp more though! (thank you Berend!)

Australian company Radial Motion uses off-the-shelf internals from an LS1 V8 to ensure easy parts availability, runs on unleaded, and produces 130 bhp and approximately 130 lb ft of torque and mates to a standard 4-speed VW Beetle trans

Happy 421 day!

Archaeologists in Antwerp Belgium have unearthed a century-old train carriage, unfortunately there’s very little left of the relic, as it disintegrated while being excavated.

Nobody knows how the rare model ended up underground in the metropolis of Antwerp, 500 miles from the rail company’s English headquarters.

The old train car was found during excavations of a 19th-century fortress known as the Northern Citadel, according to a statement from LNER. Made of wood and painted dark red with yellow lettering, the wagon is a “removals” car, used for moving people’s belongings from residence to residence.

Stuart Thomas, LNER’s communications director, in a statement. “Just last year, we celebrated 100 years since the LNER came into being in 1923. In our 101st year, it is incredible to discover more of LNER history has been buried in a field in Belgium for so many decades.”

Awwwww! South Dakota highway trooper Hulkenn is terrific "Serve and Protect" representative of the great people of South Dakota (every one there I've met is great!) and saved a cat on the highway!

Proof that there are awesome cops out there, but you have to get away from big cities, Arizona, and Kansas to find them! Compliments to Trooper Hulkenn!

Thank you Phil M for katink-alinkling my tip jar and getting me to feel comfortable posting instead of applying for jobs for one more day.. and for the compliment of the day!

You have a real talent for finding and posting interesting stuff!

a Russian engineer was arguing with a Lockheed Martin engineer on some video game forum about some military simulator War Thunder

and leaked classified information on the cross section of the Russian fighter jet SU 57

It is hardly the first time that gamers have shared details about classified military hardware. It was two years ago information about the British Army’s Challenger 2 main battle tanks (MBTs) was posted to the forums, while just six months later manuals for the French Leclerc Série 2 MBT were also shared.

In both cases, operators of the tanks had attempted to dispute the game’s depiction of the respective vehicles and to win arguments with other players.

Just last Jan, 2023, manuals for the McDonnell Douglas F-15E Strike Eagle and General Dynamics F-16 Fighting Falcon were posted also on the game’s forums for similar reasons, and so too were key attributions of the Su-57. According to reports, just days after the F-15E and F-16 details were posted to the forum, gamers also shared a classified document regarding the Russian aircraft’s radar cross-section, while additional information shed light onto the Su-57’s airframe.

if you want to be remembered, you'll need to do something quite amazing, or invent something important and long lasting, or write a book. Or be a complete screw up

Blogger let me down, caused a lot of headache, and responded to all attempts to post new stuff with "Cannot Load New Post" "Cannot Post Comment", and the Google One Help Desk was unable to fix it in 30 minutes on the phone. So I did. It took 5 minutes to solve the problem.
